The Gate Theatre
Established in 1928, the Gate is closely associated with Samuel Beckett becoming the first theatre in the world to present all nineteen of his plays during their Beckett Festival in 1991. The festival was presented again in New York and London with many of the Gate Theatre’s other productions touring around Ireland and worldwide to great acclaim.
Krapp’s Last Tape by Samuel Beckett
Every year on his birthday Krapp sits down to record his memories from the past year. On his 69th birthday, while listening to his old recordings, he recalls his past loves, disappointments and fascinations and questions whether his present lives up to his past.
Cast: John Hurt
“John Hurt’s Krapp is the most sympathetic imaginable. This is great acting brought to great art.”
The Sunday Times
“Never will you feel closer to Samuel Beckett than when you see John Hurt in Krapp’s Last Tape…this meticulous moving performance.”
